Request for feedback
To accelerate the development and implementation of seamlessly interoperating solutions for E-governance, the Government of India (GoI) is in the process of identifying Standards for e-Governance. A draft National Policy on Open Standards for e-Governance also has been formulated. Few expert committees have been established to identify standards in the prioritized areas.
I am Chairing the Expert Committee working on recommending Technical Standards for E-governance. Our Committee has prepared a draft report tabulating the conformance to openness of existing standards under 7 broad domains, which are published in the web site www.cots.nic.in
The listed standards that do not meet the openness criteria will be eliminated and the remaining standards will be further vetted for other desirable characteristics as per the National Policy. You are requested to review the draft report, specially the domains, with which you feel more comfortable from the point of view of the openness of the standards, and also suggest inclusion of the standards, which we might have missed. The last date for review feedback is January 25, 2009.
Given the critical importance of choosing the right standards for E-governance we require critical feedback from all stakeholders. Your feedback can be sent using any of the options mentioned in www.cots.nic.in. I request you to contribute your feedback at the earliest.
We plan to organize a workshop for awareness raising and feedback check-pointing at Chennai in the month of January, 2009. The location and date of workshop will be communicated soon. You are welcome to join the workshop also.
If you require more information, please feel free to contact either Dr. Balasubramanian (OTC, NIC Chennai, tech.stds@nic.in) or me and we will be happy to provide it.
Thanking you in advance for your valuable help with this important task.
With very best wishes,
Prof. G. Sivakumar
