NLTK - NLTK [Natural Language Processing Toolkit] is a complete Open Source suite of Python modules, linguistic data and documentation for research and development in Natural Language Processing. It provides utilities for many NLP tasks like chunking, stemming and parsing to name a few. It is a useful tool for students, professionals and researchers interested in Natural Language Processing and is widely used by NLP community all over the world.
GNU Build System - The GNU build system provides an environment to a computer programmer that helps them make their software/packages portable across platforms (at least for Unix-like operating systems).

1.Ant Scripting Tool - Ant is a Java-based build tool. In theory, it is kind of like Make, without Make's wrinkles and with the full portability of pure Java code.

2.Descriptive Examination System - Descriptive Examination System, developed by CDAC, is an open-source, web-based testing system, for descriptive type examinations covering exam related tasks such as paper pattern creation and reuse, question paper creation, conduction of the exam online, evaluation of the questions online (manually). Many time and resource consuming tasks involed in managing descriptive type exams are made easy and online using the system.

CDAC Mumbai, Kharghar centre, announces a series of lecture demos to introduce you to the wide range of high quality softwares available in open source. Being open source they are available with the full source code and the freedom for you to copy, distribute, study, adapt and extend as you feel like. Usually these are also available free of charge. These lecturedemos will be held on the third saturday of every month at the Kharghar campus of CDAC (address below), and will be from 10 to 12.30. We will cover 24 softwares at a time.

Anumaan is an open source, perspective-based and adaptive Predictive Text Entry System.

This system facilitates text entry by anticipating words and sentences, hence augmenting the rate of text comprehension and typing. The prediction for words and sentences is achieved by anticipating them based on prior experience usually provided in the form of a training corpus. In brief : This portal is developed in year 2005 using a popular content management system Drupal version 4.6.3 . This portal is developed to represent all the activity related to Open Source.       

Problems occurred in November 2008 :
1)New user can't register into the system.
2)Existing user is not able to enter into the portal.


Task done for solution:

Approach : 
Create backup of database.
Create backup of drupal 4.6.3 used for it.
Create replica of ossrc website using above backup.

SuTra – An Intelligent Suggestive Translator for Localization

SuTra is aimed to assist translators in this translation process. We try to reduce the translator's translation efforts and make available translated versions of applications in least possible time. The idea is to enable the translator to translate a string with just a few mouse clicks. This is done by intelligent suggestions made by SuTra on how-to use available translations for the new file and with in-built glossary support.
Beta version 1.0 of Sutra is now available to use. You can use the system at http://202.141.152.14:8083/sutra

Mapping Open Standard Principles to Technical Standards of IFEG

The Government of India (GoI) has taken major initiatives to accelerate the development and implementation of e-Governance. The National Policy on Open Standards for e-Governance provides guidelines for the uniform and reliable implementation of e-Governance solutions. The major goals are to ensure seamless interoperability of solutions developed by multiple agencies, while improving the technology choices available and avoiding vendor lock-in. In this context, an expert Committee, with members from IIT Bombay, CDAC, IIM Ahmedabad and NIC, is compiling data on various standards relevant for E-governance. The Committee's first major goal is to verify whether each standard under consideration has all the the mandatory openness characteristics listed below. Building on the Interoperability framework proposed earlier, we have classified the standards under 7 broad domains (Data Integration, Meta-data, Process, Data Interchange, Network access and application, Security, Presentation And Archival) and listed our initial findings in the tables attached. We would like to receive your valuable feedback especially regarding the following

Any errors (in your view) of the classification.

Any pointers to additional information that can help resolve entries classified as 'U' (Unclear).

Any omissions of other standards that are needed in any of the domains.

The Committee will meet by end of September to consider all the feedback received and revise the findings suitably. It will later take up the work of recommending suitable open standards for each domain/sub-domain in accordance with the National Policy on Open Standards for e-Governance.

We are exploring development of a hospital information system in open source. Does anyone know of any good FOSS solutions in this space? A number of systems are thrown up by a google search - but it is not clear how good they are. Anyone can throw any light? And similarly, anyone interested in contributing to this kind of project. Open Standard for e-Governance

Dear Colleague,

Greetings and very best wishes from IIT Bombay.

Judicious choice of standards for implementing e-Governance applications will play a critical role in the effective delivery of G2G, G2B, G2E and G2C services by the Government of India. In this context, it is my privilege to chair a Committee, with members from CDAC, IIM Ahmedabad and NIC, which is compiling data on various standards relevant for E-Governance and categorizing them on the basis of some mandatory and desirable characteristics.

We are now seeking feedback on our initial findings from experts and stakeholders for refinement and improvement. You may find a softcopy (PDF) of tables summarizing the findings here. A template for feedback (with the email IDs to send it to) has also been included in the document.

Currently standards from the Presentation and Archival Domain have been analyzed. Other Domains will be added very soon. After incorporating all feedback, we plan to open this forum for public viewing and comments.
